Screwed

(repurposed palette, American flag and screws, 48" x 40", January 2015)

This is the story of a the average American couple. Devastated by debt, the couple went through their things, determined to down-size and move into a smaller home. In preparation for a yard sale, held to help relieve their credit card debt, the two went through their garage and all of the storage spaces. Inside they found a dilapidated American Flag. After hearing the story and emotions behind it, I agreed to take this flag and turn it into a statement, in which each tier represents a different year , and each screw showed $10,000 of credit card debt that the American people have accrued as a whole. This illustrates the steady and exponential increase in credit card debt in our country. This is a direct result of the revolving door between banks and the government.
