Microscopic View of the Chesapeake Bay
(latex paint, 18' x 12', 2022)
Our communities, as humans, are based on complex, growing beneficial relationships. If humans were phytoplankton, the library would be the microscopic lens that opens up avenues for research and understanding of this ever-evolving network.
Biodiverse populations of microscopic plants like Radiophyta, Diatoms, Cyanobacteria, and Dinoflagellates fuel the Chesapeake Bays aquatic food chain and are a major primary producer of oxygen- In other words, almost everything depends on it! Phytoplankton are vital to life around the Chesapeake Bay. This commensial symbiosis parallels the creativity and togetherness that synergize in the Virginia Beach community.
